Deputy Head of Port Infrastructure Department Vidas Karolis participated at education and training seminar „Port Engineering“ held in Antwerp (Belgium) on the 19 – 30 of October, 2009, that was organized and financed by APEC (Antwerp / Flanders Port Training Centre). Participants of this tailored seminar considered the up-to-date port engineering tendencies, novelties on port infrastructure (moles, dams, piers, berths and quays), hydrodynamics (tides, streams, currents, waves, impact of meteorological conditions on navigation), ship mooring and security facilities, dredging technologies, nature protection (ecology, water and air pollution, dust, noise and waists) oil spillage and its prevention, port security and geomorphology (sediment accumulation) and other relevant issues. Visits to relevant port services of Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Gent ports were scheduled in the course of the seminar.
