Achieved agreement regarding compensation of the damage made to the coastal zone fishermen

On 15 December, 2009 a meeting with the director of the permanent representative office of the company “Josef Mobius Bau – Aktiengesellschaft“ Kęstutis Zubrickas regarding the damage made to the coastal zone fishermen and its compensation took place in the Seaport Authority.

Following the agreement, dated 7 October 2009, between the Seaport Authority and the German company “Josef Mobius Bau – Aktiengesellschaft” (on performance of dredging works in the port waters), the material dredged in the port entrance channel, suitable for beach nourishment according to LAND 46–2002  requirements, must be dumped in the coastal zone along Melnragė–Giruliai region. The soil must be dumped within the sector 2,9–6 km northward from the axis of Klaipėda port sea-gate (in three fishing districts from II Melnragė towards Palanga).

On 14 December, 2009 in response to received complaints from fishermen and inquiries from mass-media representatives regarding dumping of soil at unapproved site, the Seaport Authority found out that dredger KETO owned by the contractor “Josef Mobius Bau – Aktiengesellschaft”, which was performing dredging works in the port waters on 4-13 December 2009 and had to dump the soil dredged in the port entrance channel at the specified sites, was improperly performing soil dumping works. In the aforesaid days the soil was being dumped about 400-500 metres northward from the northern pier.

On 15 December 2009 a meeting with the director of the permanent representative office “Josef Mobius Bau – Aktiengesellschaft” Kęstutis Zubrickas regarding the damage made to the coastal fishermen and its compensation took place in the Seaport Authority.
