On 7 April 2010, East-West Transport Corridor II project event “Port Days“ took place in ferry “Vilnius“, it was attended by temporary acting Director General of the Seaport Authority Vidas Karolis, First Deputy Harbour Master–Head of Vessel Traffic Service Adomas Alekna and Head of Marketing Department Kristina Gontier. The initiator of the event “Port Days“ – the Administration of the Port of Sassnitz (Germany). The aim of the event – to improve business relations, transport and political relations with partners from the Baltic States, as well as strengthen Ro-Ro line Klaipėda– Sassnitz –Klaipėda (ferry “Vilnius“ operates on this line) market position as the alternative to road transport. The essential goal of the event – to encourage and attract larger volumes of cargo and passenger flow while using the aforementioned line which is a part of East-West Transport Corridor. The event “Port Days“ organized in Klaipėda is a part of complex series of events of the “East West Transport Corridor II – a Green Corridor Concept within the Northern Transport Axis Approach“ project. Other events of the series will take place on 8-9 April 2010 in Vilnius and Minsk. More about the East-West Transport Corridor II project On 9 June 2009 the Monitoring committee approved the “East-West Transport Corridor II” project of the European Territorial Cooperation Objective Programmes for the years 2007-2013. 31 partners participate in this project (the Seaport Authority participates in this project as a partner), and he project will continue for 2 years. Total value of the project – about 6 million Euros. The aim of the project – to develop transport centres, strengthen the concept of railways, improve the network of access roads, raise qualification of employees, develop innovative environment of the “green corridor”; and the global aim – to create East-West Transport Corridor as an effective “green” corridor, which meets the requirements for transportation of growing cargo flows. According to this project, the Seaport Authority has planned to implement technical design for construction of hydraulic ramp. The aforesaid project is continuous because in 2006–2007 the Seaport Authority as a partner participated in the “East-West Transport Corridor“ project of the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) INTERREG III B Neighbourhood Programme which was recognized as the most successful project of this programme in the sector of transport.
