On 17–18 June 2009 the representatives of European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) visited Klaipėda Port. The objective of the inspection visit was to check effectiveness of the ship-generated waste management system in the Port of Klaipėda. During a two-day visit in Klaipėda Port, the representatives of European Maritime Safety Agency checked the implementation of Directive 2000/59/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, dated 27 November 2000, on effectiveness of the system of port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues in the port. Special attention was paid to the compliance of the system of collection of ship generated waste and delivery to waste treatment facilities of the port. Procedures regulating the ship-generated waste management system and the work procedure were also checked.
