On 10 February, 2010 representative of the Port Authority - assistant to the Director General Airida Čėsnienė took part in the Baltic Sea Action Summit on protection of the Baltic Sea that was held in Helsinki (Finland).
The summit on protection of the Baltic Sea was hosted by the President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen, Prime-minister Matti Vanhanen and organised by the fond Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) together with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The summit attracted a large group of participants – around 400 high-level politicians, prominent economists and artists from various countries of the Baltic Sea Region.
Each participant of the meeting informed what measures will be taken for protection of the Baltic Sea. Participants of the summit are expected to take ambitious actions pursuant to specific plans including strict commitments to reduce pollution.
The Port Authority informs that in order to improve ecological condition of the Baltic Sea it approved commitment „Removal and treatment of contaminated sediments of Klaipėda State Seaport waters“.
