Representatives of Seaport Authority participated in the conference “Lithuania’s readiness to implement the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Environmental protection“
 
On 9 November 2009 environmental specialist of the Port Infrastructure Department of the Seaport Authority Valerija Portapienė and project manager Rasa Stalnionytė participated in conference “Lithuania’s readiness to implement the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Environmental protection“ held in the Constitution hall of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
 
Conference “Lithuania’s readiness to implement the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Environmental protection“ was organized on initiative of the member of European Parliament Radvilė Morkūnaitė, after 30 of October,2009 the European Council approved the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region developed by the European Commission. According to the approved strategy, a cycle of conferences on Lithuania’s readiness to implement the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region  is to be organized in the years 2009–2010.
 
The aim of this first conference – to present provisions of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region in terms of environmental protection.
 
Issues discussed in the conference included the current condition of the Baltic  Sea and Lithuania’s inner waters flowing into the Baltic  Sea; the measures and actions that in the most effective way could contribute to implementation of the Baltic  Sea strategy in terms of environmental protection were analyzed and proposed in collaboration with state institutions, scientists and non-governmental organizations working in the field of environmental protection.
