Container train Viking

Viking
The combined train “Viking” is a joint project of Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian railways, seaport cargo companies, and Klaipėda, Ilyitchovsk and Odessa seaports.

The train carries 20 and 40-foot containers as well as semitrailers and trailer-trains (contrailers). They are sent to Klaipėda port by sea transport from Scandinavia and Western Europe as well as via Mukran–Klaipėda ferry-line, and then carry on to Ukraine, Belarus, the near east, and Caucasus via Ilyitchovsk and Odessa sea ports.

The railcars with the containers and trailer-trains are taken by “Viking” not only to the ports of Klaipeda, Ilyitchovsk and Odessa, but also to train stations in Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine.

The railcars with containers bound for Georgia and Armenia can travel via two different ferry lines: Ilyitchovsk (Ukraine) – Potch (Georgia), or Ilytchovsk (Ukraine) – Batumi (Georgia). The ones going to Turkey can be transported via the Ilyitchovsk (Ukraine) – Derinj (Turkey) ferry line.

Containers carried by “Viking” can be loaded and unloaded in the Klaipėda port (Draugystė station), or at container platforms in Panerių and Klaipėda train stations.

Trailer-trains can be loaded and unloaded onto the railcars on the ramp at Draugystė or Paneriu station.

The “Viking” train’s operators:
In Lithuania – "LG Ekspedicija";
In Belarus – Nation-wide transport expedition enterprise "Belintertrans";
In Ukraine – Ukrainian State Transport Service Centre “Liski“.

At the request of the port forwarder (the sender), AB “Lietuvos Geležinkeliai“ can provide its own cargo containers.

Requests for railcars and containers carried by the “Viking” train must to be submitted in writing to the appropriate station chief (Draugystė, Panerių, or Klaipėda) no later than 5 days before the train’s departure from Draugystė station.

Trailer-trains carried by the USTSC "Liski" are operated by specialized railcars.

Railcars with containers and trailer-trains carried from Paneriu station are braced to the “Viking” train at Vaidotu station; railcars with containers carried from Klaipeda station are braced at the Draugyste station. The tariffs for “Viking” containers and trailer-trains are lower than those of truck forwarding.
