PREFEASIBILITY STUDY OF KLAIPĖDA STATE SEAPORT DEVELOPMENT On 17th of August 1999 the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania with a request to act as an intermediary in assigning Japanese experts to prepare a prefeasibility study on Klaipėda state seaport development. On 8th of May 2002 the Embassy of Japan in Lithuania in its Note No. L/02/30 informed that study of Klaipėda port development project in Lithuania would be prepared only after the exchange of Notes between the Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. The Government of Japan granted a subsidy to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for preparation a study on Klaipėda port development project. In 2002 the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority and Japan International Cooperation Agency undersigned the scope of works (technical task) of study on Klaipėda port development project. Works of the study on the port development project were started on 31st of March 2003. The aforesaid study made a basis for preparation of the following documents: The major part of study group experts led by Mr. Kiyokuni Okubo arrived to Lithuania at the end of March 2003. In the beginning of April 2003 a group of study advisers came for a short visit to Klaipėda. On 14th of April 2003 a preliminary report was presented at the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania and approved by the Study Supervision Committee formed by Order of the Minister of Transport and Communications. The study on the port development project in the Republic of Lithuania was made in 16 months: works were started on 31st of March 2003 and finished on 31st of July 2004. |
