In January of 2011 Klaipėda Port handled even 3,18 million tons of marine cargo and reached the best month‘s handling result throughout the whole history of the Port ( more by 22,9 percent comparing with January of 2010).

3,177 million tons of marine cargo (more by 22,9 percent comparing with the corresponding period of 2010) was handled in January of 2011 in Klaipėda Port. The growth of cargo turnover that had started since the second half of 2009 keeps remaining at the constant level and even exceeds all expectations. The key reasons that had determined the extremely high rate of cargo handling in January are as follow:

1. Accumulated amount of bulk cargo that due to unfavourable weather conditions was not handled in December of 2010.

2. The increased amount of Russian cargo that has grown due to restrictions to carry the cargo by the roadways of Poland.

3. Increasing consumption of goods.

4. Attraction of new cargoes to Klaipėda Port.
