Quarantine in Lithuania: what changes in Klaipeda Seaport?

After the quarantine had been declared in the Republic of Lithuania, we prepared answers to the most frequently asked questions about activities of the seaport during the quarantine.

  1. It is prohibited for the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania to leave the Republic of Lithuania, except when they are returning to their place of residence, going to their work place, and when permitted by the head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania or his authorized person.
  2. It is prohibited for foreigners to enter the Republic of Lithuania, except for drivers and crew members, when commercial and/or international carriage of goods is carried out, also except for persons, who have a permit to reside in the Republic of Lithuania, persons who have immunities and privileges under Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961 and Vienna Convention on Consular Relations 1963, persons serving in NATO and military units of the NATO member States, their servicing staff and their family members.
  3. Transit of persons, who are returning to the country of residence, through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania, without making unnecessary stops, is permitted until the 19th of March 00:00.
  4. Isolation of 14 days is compulsory for persons, who have returned from foreign countries.

  • Has the schedule of Smiltyne Ferry been changed? Yes, the routes from the Old Ferry Terminal are suspended from the 16th of March, 00:00 due to quarantine. Smiltyne Ferry Ltd announces that in order to prevent spread of coronavirus, the routes of ferries from the Old Ferry Terminal to Smiltyne and back shall be suspended from the 16th of March 2020 00:00 until the 30th of March 24:00. The persons, who want to get to Smiltyne or Klaipeda, are welcome to come to the New Ferry Terminal, where the ferries will continue to run. The carriers providing passenger carriage services in Neringa have been notified about the situation, so they are going to come to pick the passengers up from the New Ferry Terminal. Smiltyne Ferry recommends to follow information on the company’s website www.keltas.lt or to call by short number 1870.
  • Where is all the information on coronavirus (COVID-19) available? The coronavirus hotline is operating twenty-four hours a day – 1808. Information is being updated and posted on the official website of the Lithuanian Government regularly http://lrv.lt/ .
  • What is the transit period applied to the citizens of other countries to return home via the territory of the Republic of Lithuania? On the 22 of March 2020 the Government of the Republic of Lithuania took a decision to extend the transit period for the citizens of  other countries to return home via the territory of the Republic of Lithuania up to the 26  March 2020 till 00:00. Transit of persons returning to the countries of their residence via the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without any necessary stopping, in groups of persons and transport modes and ensuring the obligatory convoy of such groups from the arrival to the Republic of Lithuania till the departure from it via international border crossing –points   has been permitted up to  the 26  of March 2020 till 00:00. The simplified transit of persons from the territory of the Russian Federation to the Kaliningrad region of Russian Federation and back from it via the territory of the Republic of Lithuania is allowed  only through Kena railway border control point and Kybartai railway border control point.
  • What are the changes applied to transit persons? Transit of persons returning to the countries of their residence via the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without any necessary stopping, in groups of persons and transport modes and ensuring the obligatory convoy of such groups from the arrival to the Republic of Lithuania till the departure from it via international border crossing –points  is  permitted up to  the 13  of April 2020 till 24:00.
