Cargo handling in the port of Klaipeda

17.71 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port during ten months this year, i.e. by 5.7 % more than in the respective period in 2004.
 
1.86 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Klaipeda in October this year, i.e. by 7.1 % more than in October last year respectively.
 
According to cargo type handling of bulk cargo increased (by + 15.9 % up to 5 964.0 thousand tons) as well as general cargo (by + 10.0 % up to 5 898.6 thousand tons), however handling of liquid cargo decreased (by - 6.3 % up to 5 851.5 thousand tons) no matter the fact that handling of liquid fertilizers increased by + 19.0 % up to 983.3 thousand tons in comparison with previous year.
 
During January – October 175 534 TEU containers were handled. Container handling volumes increased by + 24.7 % in comparison with previous year.
 
Handling of fertilizers in the port of Klaipeda increased by + 20.4 % (up to 3 607.0 million tons). While comparing corresponding periods of this year and previous year handling of bulk fertilizers increased by + 19.0 % (up to 2 322.0 thousand tons), packed fertilizers – by + 43.6 % (up to 301.4 thousand tons).
 
The total of grain handled is a 5-fold increase (up to 520.5 thousand tons) during ten months this year, handling of perishable products increased 1.5-fold (up to 391.8 thousand tons), iron and steel (up to 367.7 thousand tons), cement (up to 174.6 thousand tons).
 
Butinge SPM handled 4.9 million tons of crude oil during January – October, 2005.

48.2 million tons of cargos, i.e. 13.7 % more than last year were handled in the port of St. Petersburg in January – October in 2005. As in previous months the increase is observed in handling of the main types of cargo, except coal (up to 2.8 million tons) and grain (up to 0.4 million tons) as well as (up to 7.5 million tons), by 4.1 %, 40.7 %, 5.1 % respectively. Handling of oil products made 28.1 % from the total cargo handling, by 17.7 % more was handled in comparison with last year figures (up to 13.6 million tons), chemical products respectively made by 11.3 increase (up to 6.2 million tons).
Handling of crude oil in the port of Primorsk increased by 32.2 % during January – October when 47.3 million tons were handled.
 
32.5 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Tallinn in January – October in 2005, i.e. by 3.5 % more than in the respective period in 2005. The increase was secured by the handling of bulk (up to 6.2 million tons or by 29.9 % more than last year) and liquid cargo (up to 21.8 million tons or by 0.4 % more than last year). No matter the fact that ro-ro and container tonnage increased by 6.3 % (up to 2.6 million tons) and by 8.8 % (up to 0.9 million tons) respectively, however handling of other general cargo decreased by 38.2 % (from 1.6 million tons in 2004 up to 1.0 million tons in 2005).
 
24.9 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Ventspils in January – October in 2005, i.e. by 4.3 % more than in the same period last year. According to cargo types the highest increase is observed in handling of liquid (by 0.8 % this year 15.4 million tons and 15.2 million tons – last year) and bulk cargo (by 12.1 %, 8.8 million tons and 7.8 million tons respectively), however handling of general cargo decreased by 7 % (from 774 thousand tons in 2004 up to 720 thousand tons in 2005). Although handling of oil products increased by 16.0 % in comparison with the last year figures, however handling of crude oil made only 244 thousand tons or by 1.9 million tons less than last year (when it made 2.1 million tons). During ten months this year more coal was handled (by 18.0 % up to 3.8 million tons) as well as fertilizers (by 7.8 % up to 4.2 million tons). Handling of ro-ro, timber and raw sugar decreased.
 
20.4 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Riga during January – October, 2005, i.e. by 1.2 % more than last year. Handling of liquid cargo decreased (from 3.9 million tons in 2004 up to 2.9 million tons in 2005) as well as general cargo (from 5.5 million tons in 2004 up to 5.3 million tons in 2005), decreased by 26 % and by 4 % respectively; volumes of bulk cargo increased by 14 % (from 10.7 million tons in 2004 up to 12.2 million tons in 2005). Handling of coal that makes almost 44 % from the total handling in the port of Riga, increased by 13.4 %, i.e. up to 8.9 million tons.
 
3.8 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Liepaja during ten months this year, i.e. by 0.6 % less than last year. Handling of liquid cargo decreased (by 27.3 % or 0.6 million tons) as well as general cargo (by 4 % or 2.0 million tons). Handling of bulk cargo increased by 36 % (1.2 million tons) in comparison with the same period in 2004 (0.9 million tons). Grain handling increased by 85 % (from 0.4 million tons in 2004 up to 0.7 million tons in 2005), handling of oil products decreased up to 30% (from 0.5 million tons in 2004 up to 0.4 million tons in 2005).
 
12.1 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Kaliningrad during ten months this year, where handling of general cargo increased by 9.4 % and handling of liquid cargo increased by 10.3 in comparison with the same period in 2004, handling of bulk cargo decreased by 8.6 % up to 1.6 million tons. Container throughput showed increase by 53.7 % (from 58 085 TEU in 2004 up to 89 252 TEU in 2005); handling of oil products increased by 11.5 % (from 6.4 million tons in 2004 up to 7.1 million tons in 2005), handling of ferroalloys and metals decreased by 35.4 % and by 6.4 % respectively.
