This month was marked by increasing handling rates of bulk fertilizers and containers

The aggregate throughput of Klaipeda Port and at Butingės terminal in January of 2014 totalled 3,1  mln. tn of seaborne cargo: 2,6 mln. tn were handled in Klaipeda Seaport (the year-on-year change was -11,9 pct. or -352 thou. tn) and 0,5 mln. tn were handled at Butinges Terminal (the year-on-year change was 49,9 pct. or -499,4 thou. tn).

In January of 2014 the best result in Klaipeda Port was achieved in the turnover of dry and bulk cargo (44 pct.): totally 1 154,5 thou. tn, i.e. more by +0,9 pct. than in January of 2013 were handled. This result was achieved due to increased by 7,2 pct. throughput of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers : 580,9 thou. th were handled (the yoy change was +38,8 thou. tn). The handling rates of other categories of cargo making impact on the throughput of this cargo group also showed the increase: ore (110,6 thou. tn, +351,1 pct. or +86 thou. tn yoy), raw and processed minerals, construction materials (207,5 thou. tn, +60,4 pct. or +78,2 thou. tn yoy) and scrap metal (24,1 thou. tn, +137,4 pct. or +13,9 thou. tn yoy). The throughput of agriculture products that achieved the record in 2013 dramatically dropped down in January of the current year: 185,1 thou. tn were handled, the year-on-year change was -48,8 pct. or -176,3 thou. tn.

In line with decreased prices on fuel oil in the world market of oil products volumes of refined oil in SC Orlen Lietuva and as a result its export via Klaipeda Port dropped down as well. Due to this reason the gradual decrease in the overall turnover in the group of liquid cargo has been observed: in January of the current year 435,9 thou. tn of oil products were transhipped (the change was -46,5 pct. or -378,5 thou. tn yoy). The handling rates of liquid fertilizers and molasses dropped down to 97,3 thou. tn (-28,2 pct. or -38,3 thou. tn yoy) and 6,7 thou. tn (-64,9 pct. or -12,4 thou. tn yoy) respectively.

In January of 2014 the most rapid turnover was recorded in the group of general cargo (7,6 pct.): 883,2 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +62,8 thou. tn). Such growth was determined by the increased turnover of containerised cargoes – 430,7 thou. tn were handled (+38,4 pct) or 35 412 in terms of TEU. The handling of reefer cargo saw the increase as well – 29,2 thou. tn were handled (the change was +23,7 pct. or +5,6 thou. tn). The handling rates of other cargo types, that made impact on the cargo turnover of the aforementioned cargo group, decreased: Ro-Ro cargoes ( 339,5  thou. tn, -10 pct. or -37,6 thou. tn yoy) and packed natural and chemical fertilizers (44,3 thou. tn, -8,1 pct. or -3,9 thou. tn yoy).

Altogether 463 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butingės terminal in January of 2014.

5 vessels moored at Butingės terminal. Klaipeda Seaport received 458 vessels (less by -16 pct. or by -87 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of 2013 ).

The number of passengers within the analysed period was 18 559 passengers, i.e. less by 227 passengers comparing with the first month of the previous year.
