Due to considerable amounts of cargo handled in March and April (1,99 million tons cargo -  in March, 1,98 million tons – in April) the cargo handling figures of the corresponding period last year were achieved and exceeded.
By the types of cargo the handling of liquid, dry and bulk cargo grew at Klaipėda port in January-April 2006. The growth in liquid cargo figures accounted for increased handling of oil products (during the first four months in 2005  -  2,33 million tons, in January-April 2006 – 2,39 million tons). Stevedoring company „Krovinių terminalas“ (Cargo terminal) that started its activities in March, 2006 handled almost 250 thousand tons of oil products, what also determined better results of oil products handling at Klaipėda port as compared with the last year.
In January-April 2006 the rest share of liquid cargo - 425 thousand tons accounted for liquid fertilisers and molasses, which handling has insignificantly changed as compared with the same period in 2005.
The growth of dry and bulk cargo handling was mostly triggered by increased cargo flows of bulk fertilizers and agriculture products. In January-April, 2006 the amount of cargo handled at Klaipėda port accounted for 1,11 million tons (in 2005 - 0,93 million tons) or  +18,6 percent more of  dry bulk fertilisers and 0,43 million tons (in 2005 - 0,34  million tons) or  + 25,8 percent more of agriculture products.
Although slight however a drop in container handling during last months (the most TEU - over 19 thousand - were handled in February) resulted in drop of summarised four-month cargo handling figures as compared with the last year. According to „Klaipėdos terminalo grupė” director general V.Šileika the fact could be explained by various reasons: slower rate of Lithuanian industry growth, decreased container flow to Kaliningrad Region, moderate transit container flows.
The increase in Ro-ro units (change + 21,3 percent) handling was due to growing handling of trailers and cars at Klaipėda port. More than 15 thousand ro-ro units were handled in April 2006; this is the highest monthly cargo turnover in 2006.
On 27th of April Klaipėda port started the cruise shipping season – the first ship ,,Mona Lisa” with more than 500 cruise passengers on board called at the port. The total passenger flow has increased (+ 14,9 percent) and amounted to 44,9 thousand. 10 000 more cruise passengers were registered this year as compared with  2005.
During April, 2006 Būtingės terminal handled almost 500 thousand tons of oil products. The amount of cargo handled in four months achieved the last year level. Considering the fact that the handling was renewed only in February 2006, the result is rather good.
