In January through July 2006 Klaipeda Port handled 13.67 million tones of cargo, which is higher by +11.7 percent in comparison to the corresponding period of 2005.  The trend of increasing of general changes is evident in relation to the same periods last year (January – April 2006 change +1.5 percent; January – May change + 4.0 percent, January – June 2006 change +10.5 percent, January – July change +11.7 percent).
Such high total growth is the result of the June and July handling quantities (figure for June is 2.16 million tons, July – 1.94 million tons). Compare to handling figure for June of 2005 which was mere 1.45 million tons, and July – 1.60 million tons of cargo handled.
The highest growth rates recorded in seven months of this year were reached for oil products (+31.4 percent) and bulk fertilizers (+30.7 percent) in relation to the same period last year.

Growth of liquid cargoes resulted from increasing oil products handling (in the first seven months of 2005 amount of oil handled stood at 3.43 million tons while in January-July 2006 – 4.51 million tons) and several fold growth of molasses handling.  UAB “Krovinių terminalas”, which started its operation in this March, handled over 700 thousand tons of oil.
Increased cargo flows of bulk fertilizers and agricultural products had a major impact on growth of bulk and dry cargo handling. In January-July this year Klaipeda port handled 1.86 million tons (figure for 2005 was 1.42 million tons) of bulk fertilizers, an increase of +30.7 percent, and 0.55 million tons (figure for 2005 was 0.44 million tons) of agricultural products, an increase of + 24.2 percent.
Increase of Ro-ro units (change + 22.2 percent) was generated by growth of handling of trailers, highway freighters, trucks and passenger cars in the port of Klaipeda.  Over 20.3 thousand ro-ro units were handled in July this year, which is the highest monthly figure for 2006.  The causes that influenced this growth include the stricter regulations for drivers’ time accounting on the roads of Poland and growing trade between East and West.
The container handling (TEU), which increased in July, made it possible to surpass the total handling amount for the six months in relation to the last year.
Būtingė Oil Terminal handled 3.0 million tons of crude oil in January – July 2006 (change +0.8 percent in relation to the last year).
