INCIDENT IN THE HARBOUR (2)

On 14 March 2007, at approx. 6:46 a.m., the dispatcher on duty at the ferry terminal AB „Smiltynės perkėla“ reported to the Dispatcher Office of the State Enterprise Klaipeda State Seaport Authority about the incident of falling down into the water of a passenger car with a driver inside off Quay 78.
 
Following receipt of the mentioned report, the port dispatcher office of the Seaport Authority immediately sent Aleksandr Nikitin, Head of Oil Collection and Underground Operations Department, together with divers by cutter “Žaibas” to the scene of the incident.  Two fire engines were also immediately called to the site of the incident.
 
The divers searched for the car for about two hours.  At 8:45 a.m., the sunken vehicle was found at the depth of 4 metres near the mentioned quay. 
 
At approx. 10:00 a.m. vessel “Rusnė” (using the crane available in the said vessel) of the State Enterprise Klaipeda State Seaport Authority hoisted out the vehicle model Opel Omega in which a dead driver was found.  The harbour police are investigating the causes of this incident.
