Cargo handling in Klaipėda and neighbouring ports during January-October 2007

                      During January – October 2007 22,8 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipeda Port. It is by 17,4 percent more than during the same period 2006.
                      During January – October 2007 there grew the handling volumes of all types of cargo (general, bulk and dry bulk).

During October 2007 cargo handling volumes increased by one fourth (2,38 million tons was handled) comparing to October 2006.
The growth of liquid cargo was predetermined by the increase liquid fertilizer handling volumes (during January-October 2006 0,95 million tons was handled and during January-October 2007 – 1,32 million tons or by 39,6 percent more). 6,09 million tons of oil products was handled (by 4,5 percent more).
Comparing to last year, there increased handling volumes of bulk fertilizers (by 46,3 percent more), forestry products (by 45,5 percent more), agricultural products (by 45,5 percent more), packed fertilizers (by 26,5 percent more), cold cargo (by 24,7 percent more), peat (by 6,5 percent more), minerals (by 2,4 percent more), as well as containers (by 49,2 percent more from the point of view of tonnage) and ro-ro units – by 8,8 percent more (from the point of view of tonnage). There decreased the handling volumes of raw sugar – by 68,9 percent less, molasses– by 35,6 percent less, alloys – by 21,5 percent less in Klaipėda Port.  
Container handling increased by 43 percent (in TEU), and ro-ro units – by 9 proc. The growth of ro-ro units was predetermined by the increase of auto-trailers handling in Klaipėda Port.  
             During ten months of this year the total figure of passengers who visited the port by ferries increased by 21,3 percent and made 257 thousand. In October almost 17 thousand passengers were served in the Port.

During January – October 2007 25,99 million tons was handled in Ventspils port and during the same period of 2006 - 24,25 million tons. There grew the handling volumes of all types of cargo: liquid cargo – by 9,3 percent more or 16,61 million tons, bulk and dry bulk cargo – by 4,1 percent more or 7,24 million tons, general cargo – by 2,3 percent more or 2,14 million tons. According to the type of cargo there grew the handling volumes of crude oil (396 thousand tons more), oil products (898 thousand tons), grain (280 thousand tons) and non-ferrous metals (57 thousand tons) in Ventspils port. Handling volumes of the main transit cargo – oil products and bulk fertilizers – were the following: during January – October 2007 13,89 million tons of oil products was handled  (by 6,9 percent more), bulk fertilizers  – 2,74 million tons (by 4,1 percent less).
During January – October 2007 134 thousand tons of containerized cargo was handled in Ventspils port (last year - 115 thousand tons) and 47,23 thousand passengers were served  (by 5 percent more than in 2006).
 
During January – October 2007 21,45 million tons of cargo was handled in Riga port i.e. by 1,1 percent less than last year. There decreased the handling volumes of bulk and dry bulk cargo. The greater part of cargo, 12,51 million tons made bulk and dry bulk cargo  - 6,3 percent of them was handled or by  845,7 thousand tons less than during January – October 2006. 483,4 thousand tons of bulk fertilizers was handled or by 44,2 percent more, iron ore made +169,4 thousand tons or by 290,1 percent more than last year. Handling of coal decreased by 11,2 percent or up to  8,35 million tons and made 38,9 percent of the total cargo handling volume. There also decreased handling of sugar –52,0 percent or up to  95,9 thousand tons, peat –32,2 percent or up to 102,0 thousand tons.
4,79 million tons of general cargo was handled in Riga port (by 13,3 percent more than during January – October 2006). According to the type of general cargo timber made 2557 thousand tons (by 1,7 percent more), and containerized cargo - 1464 thousand tons  (by 16,2 percent more).
The volumes of liquid cargo during January – October 2007 increased by 0,9 percent, in comparison with the same period last year and made  3,2 million tons.
During ten months of this year 395 thousand passengers were serve din Riga port and during January – October 2006 -  217 thousand  (increased by 1,8 times).
 
During January – October 2007 31,33 million tons of cargo was handled in Tallinn port (by 8,1 percent less comparing to the same period 2006). According to the type of cargo there decreased the handling volumes of bulk and dry bulk cargo by 19,7 percent or  1,9 million tons, general cargo increased by 6,1 percent or  247,5 thousand tons and liquid cargo decreased by 5,3 percent or 1,1 million tons. The biggest part in the total cargo structure in Tallinn port made liquid cargo, i.e.  61,1 percent.
During January – October 2007 2388 cargo vessels called Tallinn port and during January – October 2006 – 2553 ships (by 6,5 percent less).
During ten months of this year 5,55 million passengers were serve din Tallinn port and during January – October 2006 - 5,81 million (by 4,6 percent less).
 
                      During ten months of 2007 3,33 million tons of cargo was handled in Liepaja  port.
