Information about the Project.
Reconstruction of railway viaduct via Varnenu Street – is the first part of the project Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal.
1. Terms of Reference of a railway viaduct via Varnenu Street (using EU INTERREG III B funds) and the Technical Project (using TEN-T funds) were prepared to order of the Port Authority.
The reconstruction of a viaduct will be executed by UAB „Hidrostatyba“and UAB „Viadukas“(on the basis of joint activity contract). The Employer of construction works – is AB „Lietuvos geležinkeliai“. More than 10 million Litas are foreseen for the implementation of this Project. European Regional Development Funds will make 85 percent. The rest part will be allotted by AB „Lietuvos geležinkeliai“and state budget.
It is planned to complete the reconstruction of a viaduct by the middle of 2011. During the Project it is foreseen to extend the existing viaduct (constructed in 1985) and construct a new viaduct with the length of 85 m. Each viaduct will be made of reinforced concrete supports, beams and span plates construction. The total length of both viaducts will be 170 m. After the reconstruction railway communication will be executed in two directions. Those viaducts will ensure quick and smooth entrance and departure from the future Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal and will significantly improve railway Access conditions to AB „Baltijos laivų statykla“, KJKK „Bega“, „LKAB „Klaipėdos Smeltė“, UAB „Birių krovinių terminalas“ and UAB „Klaipėdos šaldytuvų terminalas“.

2. Infrastructure of Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal: construction of quays No 80-81 with a pier No 80a - 81a and development of 2 regulated ramps. To order of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority (using EU INTERREG IIIB program funds) UAB „Hidroprojektas“ and  „KMT-Ingenieurgesellschaft MBH“ (on the basis of joint activity contract) prepared the Terms of Reference for the above quays and a pier and are completing Technical Project. In July this year it is planned to launch a Tender for the construction works of this object (anticipated duration of construction works is 2 years).
Having constructed the quays and a pier, 3 ships at a time will be moored at Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal (types of ships: ro-ro, ro-pax, passenger ferries, and cruise vessels).

3. The reconstruction of Baltijos avenue  (central access out of the port) – is important part of the construction of Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal, that will ensure quick and smooth movement of transport flows to/from the port. Within the scope of the reconstruction of Baltijos avenue there will be reconstructed the crossings of Baltijos avenue with Minijos street, Taikos avenue and Silutes road.
To order of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority the preparatory works were executed using EU INTERREG III B funds; presently Terms of Reference and Technical Project are under preparation (using TEN-T funds). Having completed those reconstruction works, transport congestion, pollution and noise problems will be solved. Besides, new access road to/from the port will be constructed (i.e. Baltijos avenue, which is the extension of the motorway Vilnius–Klaipėda , will be connected with the port).

Development of superstructure. The operator of Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal  – UAB „Klaipėdos keleivių ir krovinių terminalas“ – will develop superstructure objects: passenger service and office building, check points, covered gallery (for passengers to go on ships), parking site for automobiles, cargo storage areas and general cargo warehouses.

UAB „Klaipėdos keleivių ir krovinių terminalas“ functions - the collection and utilization of ship generated waste, reception of water polluted with oil products from ships and auto transport and molasses and other liquid cargo – are planned to be removed to another place of Klaipeda port.
